First Joint Coordinating Committee

Our Chairperson, Savio Wambugu, attended yesterday's first Joint Coordinating Committee meeting for the hashtag#StartupEcosystemEnhancementProject in Eastern Africa, convened by Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The Committee approved the Year One work plan to accelerate regional startup growth through structured coordination, policy, and ecosystem strengthening.

The meeting was chaired by Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Science, Research and Innovation, who noted, “With its unique blend of talent, technology, and innovation, Kenya is positioned to lead in the bioeconomy and emerging tech. Through policy clarity, structured coordination, and targeted acceleration, we are strengthening an investment-ready pipeline of scalable ventures.”

Alongside ecosystem leaders such as the CEO of KeNIA Dr. Tonny K. Omwansa, PhD, and JICA Program Advisor Jiro Makimoto, the committee's approved agenda focuses on:
• Alignment with the Innovation Master Plan
• Sector-focused incubation and acceleration, including climate technology
• Corporate startup matchmaking
• Policy recommendations to strengthen entrepreneurship and investment

This is a move from strategy to implementation and reinforces Kenya’s leadership in driving innovation and cross-border ecosystem growth in Eastern Africa 💡👏
